Writing Classes:

Mary has taught writing at writer's conferences, schools, libraries, workshops, the YMCA and the Writer's Garret of Dallas (underwritten by numerous organizations, with a magazine that reaches more than a million households).

She has also published instructional articles on writing in Writer's Digest, Creativity (a Writer's Digest publication), Byline, Writing for Money, Writer's Journal and others.

Writing classes offered periodically include:

1. Non-fiction article writing:
In this class Mary helps students brainstorm, experience and develop ideas. Having published articles on a wide variety of subjects, Mary teaches writers that the key to freelance success is throwing yourself into new experiences - and using the exciting and fresh experiences from life as the basis of your writing.

2. Putting together a book proposal:
After spending six years trying unsuccessfully to sell a book proposal, Mary learned one-on-one from a professional, who spent six months helping her develop the proposal that landed her a contract with a major publisher - without an agent. In this class, Mary teaches you how to write a proposal that will catch - and keep - and editor's eye.

3. Spiritual Memoir writing:
A distinguishing aspect of Mary's writing comes from combining experience with reflection. Most spiritual writing is too esoteric and thus difficult to understand and relate to. Mary teaches writers in this class how to "ground" their spiritual writing by taking experiences and drawing reflection from these.

Retreat in the Rockies:

Beginning in the fall of 2010, Mary will begin leading a variety of self-reflective "free-writing" sessions, classes, and critiques in one of the most beautiful settings in the Rockies. Daytime sessions will be held outdoors, under a canopy of golden aspens.

This writers' retreat is designed to meet the needs of both professional and non-professional writers. Although instructive classes will be offered each evening, the focus of the retreat is on self-reflection, free-writing, journaling, and descriptive writing. If you want to delve more deeply into yourself, and into the mysteries of life, or if you want to stoke your imagination, and contemplate new ideas and dreams for your life, this retreat is for you. If you want to get published, or to increase your sales, this retreat is for you.

For more information, email Mary at maryblyehowe@sbcglobal.net. Registration will begin in June of 2010, and the retreat will be held in the fall.
